DAF 45-55 Volumaker concepts 1994.03
During the original design phases in 1994, the adaptability of the modular Volumaker body system was that it could be used in many different applications.
As well as being lightweight, due to its foam cored plastic double skin construction, it was easy to maintain and replace damaged panels. This could allow for extra payload to be carried. In the case of a 7.5 tonne Leyland DAF truck, this had a major benefit to some operators.
In the summer of 1996 RYDER UK also undertook a feasibility study to build the bodywork on site at the DAF truck assembly plant in Leyland, Lancashire.Renault UK used the body system as part of a fleet evaluation study for the Royal Mail.
VW UK, were also able to offer the body system on their LT model, which had a body shared with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
