In the early 80’s, during the Austin-Rover days at Canley design Studio, other ex British Leyland companies often brought their design work in for development or new concepts.

Freight Rover, now LDV, often requested proposals, of which here are a couple of examples, to visualise their next generation of vans.

In fact it was another 5 years before the project finally came to fruition, as the LDV 201/202 (which you can see elsewhere in this portfolio), which drew considerably from this early theme work.

Later in 1991, the theme designs became far more expressive. It would be interesting to see the common van, become a stylish vehicle, which makes a style statement, whilst remaining practical.

Ultimately, we all need to carry goods at some time, so why not cross-over the van and the estate car, to create a dynamic ‘hold-all’, ideal for hauling sports gear, or whatever moves you.
