During the Summer of 2000, whilst working in the Strategic Design Studio, the Marketing Department decided to created a concept car to gauge the publics reaction to a new generation of ‘R’ model for the recently launched S60.

As the car was due to be shown at the Paris Motor Show in September, this meant that it had to be completed in only 12 weeks or less. Working long shifts and through the 5 week annual leave , the car was designed, modelled, tooled and built on time, and produced such an enthusiastic reaction with the Press and Public, that the ‘R’ programme was confirmed.

Later, a second Concept Car PCC2, an estate version was created for the 2001 Frankfurt Show. This car actually very closely resembled the final production car.
